A Mother’s Legacy: Finding Comfort in Jesus When You’re Grieving

My deepest prayer in writing this post is that it serves as a comfort to your heart, and that you find solace in the One who loves you perfectly.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)
"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others."

The Gift of a Praying Mother

“The greatest inheritance I can ever leave you is a spiritual inheritance. Teachings of the Word of God, building a personal relationship with Christ. Praying for you without ceasing.”

My mother modeled this beautifully, teaching us from a young age how to grow our faith in Christ. She kept her faith until the very end—a true example of a mother who stayed on her knees. Her life wasn't perfect, but motherhood isn't about perfection. It is about realizing our total dependence on our Creator. Our calling is to teach our children the Word of God, show them how to stand firm on it, and help them build their own relationship with Jesus.
Matthew 5:4 (NLT)
"God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

Mothering While Broken

Living this out is incredibly hard when our flesh is weak. After losing my mom three years ago, I truly learned that we cannot rely on our own strength. Thankfully, we have a Comforter and a Healer who is always dependable.

In moments of intense loneliness, I relied heavily on Christ and the leading of the Holy Spirit to guide me through the grief. I had to continue mothering my own children while feeling entirely lost without my mom.

If you are wondering how to do this, the answer is found in the Word, in Christ. When the pain is too heavy for words and you don't know what to pray, simply say, “Lord, You know my heart.” Be completely authentic with the One who knows you best. Rest at the feet of Jesus and let Him do the heavy lifting.
Psalm 147:3 (NLT)
"He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds."

You Do Not Have to Be Strong

Mama, please know that you are not alone, even when the silence feels overwhelming. If you are experiencing numbness, deep hurt, loneliness, or feel completely lost—hold tight to the One who stands with you through it all. You do not need to perform or find the "right" words. You can just be. Bring your raw hurt and anger to Him and lay it all down.
Psalm 34:18 (NLT)
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed."
Three years have passed since my mom went home to be with the Lord. Looking back, I can clearly see how He healed me through the darkest parts of the process. I miss her every single day. I would love to pick up the phone, hear her voice, and ask her advice on life. But looking at where I am today compared to where I started, my heart is full of gratitude.

If you are a mama walking through this right now, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Journal your feelings, document your journey, and stay rooted in Scripture. In time, you will look back and see exactly how He led you through, holding your hand even when He felt far away.
Isaiah 43:2 (NLT)
"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown."

Psalm 23:4 (NLT)
"Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me."

Psalm 30:5 (NLT)
"Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning."

Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love... indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
